WORD The achievements accomplished by the Moroccan port sector are the result
OF THE PRESIDENT of an evolution which took place over several years. The improvement and
diversification of the port services combined with operational flexibility and
OF THE BOARD the effective adoption of best practices allowed the synchronization of the
various stakeholders’ efforts in the port passage chain.
OF DIRECTORS
These accomplishments are part of a Moroccan port strategy that seeks to
OF THE ANP transform the country’s ports into key platforms in the Mediterranean basin
and West Africa logistics chains. The presence of a large-scale hub and a
regional logistics platform reflects Morocco’s broad maritime connectivity.
In this respect, the annual report on maritime transport of the UNCTAD
ranks Morocco as the second most connected country in Africa.
The sector has also shown good resilience regarding the various impacts of
the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. In fact, the ports were the only active border
points after the closure of airports and land borders during the lockdown
period.
In this regard, we are particularly delighted with the capacity of the National
Ports Agency to undertake specific management schemes to this crisis and
to mobilize the port community in order to ensure the continuity of port
activities and to guarantee the supply of strategic products, while carefully
monitoring compliance with the applicable health prevention rules. In this
sense, the overall port traffic managed by the Agency has reached a record
volume of 92.5 million tons, that is +5.1% compared to 2019.
Abdelkader AMARA
The 2020 annual report takes stock of an exceptional year in terms of the
Minister of Equipment, scale of the Agency’s performance and the various measures adopted to
Transport, Logistics and Water
manage the temporary increase in certain types of trafficking, in particular
President of the Board that of cereals, which has registered an exceptional and unprecedented
of Directors level, exceeding 9.3 million tons.
