Protection of marine
and port environment
The environmental challenges and impacts emanating from
the port community activities are relating mainly to the
biodiversity protection, the management of pollutant waste
and even the impact of these activities on water, underwater
fauna and flora. In order to master these challenges, the
Agency has set up several actions and projects aiming, in
particular, at carrying out studies on the quality of water and
sediments in port basins and defining the measures to be
adopted in order to ensure port healthiness.
In addition, and in order to cope with accidental pollution,
affecting or likely to affect the waters of port basins, the
Agency has set up Port Emergency Plans (PEP) which fall within the National Emergency Plan to fight oil pollution (NEP). This
system is being enhanced by conducting accidental spill
simulations in the port basins and by acquiring specific
Anti-Oil-Pollution equipment.
In addition, the Agency pays particular attention to waste
management and to the port areas’ hygiene mainly through:
• Authorizing specialized companies to collect oily water
and ship oils.
• Daily cleaning of port areas.
• Setting up waste sorting bins at the level of
Mohammedia Port and Casablanca Port (Pilot Ports).
